I feel this is a good follow-up to our article on why good logo design is important.
The Department of Innovation, a blog being launched by the Smithsonian, recently unveiled themselves and with it, their logo. Aside from the generic, poorly designed aesthetic (the teeth are inconsistently spaced), take a good look at those gears… Yup, those gears would not be able to move; they are completely locked in place. As pointed out it’s “a perfect analogy of today’s government!”
On the welcome page they acknowledge the attention their logo is getting and say “we have since shifted the gears and switched in a new logo.” I am curious to see this new logo and hope they give the design the attention this one did not.
