Let’s see if we can break some tech!
I am on adventure this week, out on the east coast, in NYC. This is the place where Jules and I met and is absolutely one of our favorite places in the world.
Sitting on the plane thinking about projects that we have in progress and how I would like to be moving forward, I couldn’t help but wonder: How much work can I really complete from just my phone? I have a laptop and tablet back in the hotel room, but as I write this I am sitting in Chelsey Market the home of Food Network. Why would I want to sit in a Harlem apartment when I could be out and about experiencing one of the greatest cities in the world!
So now on to the challenge: How far can I take a brand new WordPress site from just my iPhone.
Starting off easy I decided to checkout WordPress.com, they are a huge site with plenty of development and I would expect them to be mobile optimized. They Were!
After running up the stairs to the Staten Island Ferry and taking the mandatory Statue of Liberty photo I sat down and hit the web. Honestly though, there isn’t much to explain, I went step by step through the sign up, URL, theme selection and initial customization FAST. I even had time to delete the default content and post a first before finishing the Ferry’s round trip. I even got my first pick for user name and URL.

The downsides of WordPress.com are going to be the same as they would be if I had used a computer: I would have to pay extra for a non WordPress URL, I don’t have full control over my theme and plugins, PHP and CSS are locked down… So I pretty much get an out of the box theme, and that’s it. I am happy with the results though, I almost didn’t even start the challenge because I had hit roadblocks before, but this time I set up a new site nice and easy.
